When visiting The Big Bay, there is truly a lot to see, experience, and do. The San Diego Bay offers an assortment of entertaining events. Several of these San Diego activities offer cultural events, water activities, and more. Whether it's a holiday celebration or an everyday activity, there is almost always something going on offering continuous San Diego entertainment for anyone and everyone.
Along the bay, there are festivals, concerts, art exhibitions, parades, wine tastings, and more. Each and every event offers a unique experience for your enjoyment. Examples of past events in San Diego Bay include the "Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights," where extravagantly decorated boats and ships navigate the Bay for enthusiastic onlookers. Another event at which onlookers view ships navigating the Bay is the "Festival of Sail." This event is hosted by the Maritime Museum of San Diego. At the Festival of Sail, more than twenty tall ships and other fascinating vessels from around the world parade throughout the waters of San Diego Bay. A variety of vendors set up along the bay to provide visitors with the opportunity to sample delicious food and drinks as well as shop for unique items. An additional entertaining San Diego Bay event that has been held in the past and has become an annual event is "Bahia del Sol at the Big Bay." This event was created by the Unified Port of San Diego's Land Use Planning Department in October 2007. The Port provides patio furniture, Frisbees, games such as giant chess and checkers, musical performances, classes such as yoga and ballroom dancing, and interactive demonstrations. The event has proven to be a huge success for both adults and children. In addition, the San Diego Bay hosts the "San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival." This event typically lasts a few days and offers a variety of activities including wine tastings and special wine releases, lunches, brunches, dinners, cooking demonstrations, and classes. It draws local restaurants, thousands of patrons from all over, and various celebrities. Even "Top Chef" judge was showcased at the 2008 festival.
Some of the nation's best musical performances occur throughout the bay as well as just minutes away from the bay, in the San Diego Gaslamp District. You can walk along the beautiful San Diego Bay and then venture over to the Gaslamp to view unique, historical Victorian buildings. Additionally, the Gaslamp District provides fabulous San Diego dining. Along with providing the opportunity to visit countless restaurants and bars, the Gaslamp hosts entertaining events that span blocks. In fact, city streets in the Gaslamp are frequently closed for various San Diego events. For example, each year several bands gather to perform for thousands of patrons at San Diego's Street Scene. Street Scene has become one of America's largest music festivals, typically lasting two days and consisting of over 70 musical acts of varying genres. Bands that have graced Street Scene with their presence in the past include Pennywise, Goo Goo Dolls, Bad Religion, Ozomatli, 311, Pepper, R.E.M., The Hives, Ludacris, Beck, and Cypress Hill. The city of San Diego closes certain streets so patrons can roam the festival, viewing bands on multiple stages, frequenting local bars and restaurants, and visiting the beer gardens. Also, from April through October, certain streets are closed while the San Diego Padres play to the satisfaction of fans. The Padres play at PETCO Park, which is within a block of the Gaslamp District and in close proximity to the Big Bay.
Whether you want to wander the Bay tasting wine and food samples, go to a concert, watch speedboat races, or venture to nearby entertainment venues, San Diego Bay has enjoyable events for everyone.
