Art around San Diego Bay Print E-mail

Art, culture and community accessibility to San Diego Bay are top priorities of the Port of San Diego. The Port’s Public Art Program, an important element of that vision, was created to promote a healthy, vibrant atmosphere that contributes to the quality and identity of the region. The Port's public art collection — known as the "Tidelands Collection" — has received international recognition for its creative projects. These projects celebrate San Diego's international ties, cultural diversity, military significance and unique oceanfront environment.

With several upcoming installations, the collection will continue to provide the tidelands with stimulating works of art. Please take time and enjoy the artistic side of the Big Bay.

The Port of San Diego's Public Art Program is inspired by a variety of goals including encouraging artistic expression, inspiring a sense of civic pride, addressing social issues and integrating the arts into a community partnership process. Since 1996, the Port's Public Art Program was responsible for more than 100 artworks along San Diego Bay, the Imperial Beach oceanfront and at San Diego International Airport. New projects are in the works, so plan to visit again from time to time.

Urban Trees 4

The Urban Trees project features thirty original sculptural works of public art displayed on the Embarcadero, each designed and fabricated by a different artist. Maximum creativity in design and selection of materials was both encouraged and realized.
