In 1602, explorer Sebastián Viscaíno arrived in San Diego when it was called “San Miguel” and renamed it “San Diego de Alcalá“ after the patron saint of his flagship.

All routes lead to the Big Bay. Public transportation—buses, a trolley system, the Coaster commuter rail service—provide accessible, reliable transportation to and from San Diego Bay, seven days a week.
